Many of our OEM customers are looking for an IP67 rated (dust ingress protection and water immersion up to 1m) operator interface device for their mobile equipment. IFP has recently been designing many of our mobile systems by using a new product from HED - their CL-607 keypad shown below. The CL-607 is a CAN bus enabled keypad that has up to 12 keys, but only requires a 4 wire harness from the keypad to distribute the keypad signal.
Below is a picture from a recent trade show where this product was exhibited. The CL-607 12 button keypad is shown at the top and bottom of the cylinder. Our graphical interfaces are also shown, as you can see, completely submerged in water. Despite being fully submerged, the units are still fully operational!

One
Size May fit All
While
reading a popular automation industry
magazine, Control Engineering;
edition September 2010. I noticed
there were 24 topics listed in
the table contents. What I found
fascinating was six articles about
industrial networks, for you quick
witted Mathematicians, thats
25% on Networks. The topics were
from evaluating networks, difference
between office Ethernet and Industrial
Ethernet, to Ethernet security.
After reading these articles it
would lead you to believe Ethernet
is a one size fits all network.
I
recently had a chance to attend Pack Expo
2010 at McCormick Place in Chicago. B&R
Automation had an excellent demonstration
of using a remote device (in this case,
an Apple iPad) to access key parameters
on your automation control system using
B&R's Service Diagnostic Manager (SDM).
The great advantage to this is that it
allows end users who do not have B&R
software to be able to access key system
parameters. All you need is a web browser
to use the SDM. Check out the video below
for a demonstration of the SDM.
